Bass looks past hurtful words
lvrj.com12.26.2008
Lance Bass gives me a shocker of a quote in today's Neon section: "Every other day, I get called a 'fag,' and get threatened to (get) beat up."
That's a despicable state of homophobia directed at openly gay Bass.
But the 'N Syncer mostly has happy work on his mind, because he's on tour for the first time in about six years. He performs Monday in the "Dancing with the Stars" tour at the Orleans Arena.
Training for "Dancing with the Stars" on TV was comparable to his preparation, a few years ago, to fly to space via the Russians, he says.
"Cosmonaut training was a little harder ... a lot more things to learn."
But: "My body hurt more doing the 'Dancing with the Stars' than it did with the training for a cosmonaut, because every day you're destroying your body."
On "Dancing," he lost more than 20 pounds and got more limber.
"I still don't consider myself a dancer, but I think I'm faking it pretty well," he says and chuckles.
Bass is officially certified as a cosmonaut and is waiting for an available mission to live at the international space station for a 10-day stretch.
"But my dream is -- a lot of my experiments are going to be environmental studies. And I want to do more scholastic stuff for our schools -- update textbooks, pictures, experiments in space."
Bass says he loves the physical demands of cosmonaut training, just as he took to sky diving.
"I'm a thrill junkie, for sure," he says.
Space flying/sky diving/thrill-seeking does not scare him, because?
"I trust things more than I should."
After the "Dancing" tour, Bass goes back to his production company in Los Angeles, working on three or four TV shows in development, with hopes of getting a pilot on TV by summer.
"There's one (show) I might actually join the cast of. It just depends on how this next year goes."
By the way, maybe you saw the gossip item a few weeks ago, saying Bass' hectic "Dancing" schedule led to a breakup with his boyfriend at the time. Bass isn't backing off that statement.
"It was," he says, "me being dramatic, saying it did destroy my relationship -- which it did.
"In every relationship, you have to spend time with the other person, and I went days without seeing him. So it had to end."

Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals For Children Open PGA Tour Event Scheduled
golflasvegasnow.com12.23.2008
Justin Timberlake, who in 2007 signed a 5-year deal to be the host of Las Vegas' PGA Tour event, will be headlining Las Vegas golf again, October 12-18, 2009. The PGA Tour officiallly released the Fall Series schedule recently, and the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open falls the week after the President's Cup that is being played nearby at San Francisco's Harding Park Golf Course. That could be good news for the Las Vegas PGA Tour event as the world's top players will be just a short flight away from Las Vegas, and could come to play in the tournament that is played at Las Vegas golf course TPC Summerlin.
By most accounts, the 2008 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open was a success, but organizers are looking forward to bigger and better things in 2009. Timberlake has said that he is upping the star power for the Wednesday Pro-am, while also keeping the same amazing level for the beneift concert, Justin Timberlake and Friends, that blew the doors off the Planet Hollywood Theatre at last year's event. A few of the notables participating in events surrounding the Open inluced Ellen Degeneres, Rihanna, The Jonas Brothers, Amanda Beard, 50 Cent, Lionel Richie, Janet Jones-Gretzky, and many others. Click now to view the official tournament website for sponsor and ticket info for 2009.
The golf tournament was won by Marc Turnesa, a pro golfer who comes from a long line of golf professionals and PGA Tour players. His great-uncle, Jim, won the 1952 PGA Championship, and his grandfather, Mike, was a six-time winner on the PGA TOUR who finished second to Ben Hogan in the 1948 PGA Championship. Mike was one of seven brothers, six of whom played on PGA TOUR. One of those, Joe, was a 15-time PGA TOUR winner. The only brother who didn't turn professional was Willie, the 1938 and 1948 U.S. Amateur champion and 1947 British Amateur winner. "I don't really feel like I'm carrying on a name," Turnesa said. "I guess I am without even thinking about it. I'm just trying to play golf as best I can and that's all I can really do."
Image Turnesa came to the 18th hole with a two-shot lead but struggled to make a bogey, thus solidifying his first PGA Tour win. "I was just trying to breathe, really," said Turnesa after receiving the trophy from Timberlake. "You know, I was ... I wasn't out of control nervous, but I was feeling it. I was just happy to get it done." One of the first people to greet Turnesa after the event was Las Vegas' Butch Harmon, a longtime friend of the family. Harmon also has helped Turnesa with his swing.
The 2008 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open kicked off a five-year commitment between the Shriners Hospitals for Children and Justin Timberlake to continue the tradition of a PGA TOUR event in Las Vegas. The golfers and celebrities participated in the competition to help support the Shriners’ mission, while enjoying the signature flair that Las Vegas has to offer. All proceeds from the event benefitted the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The concert was said to have raised more than $1 million.

Lance Bass: DWTS Tour Bus ‘Much Better’ Than ‘N Sync
people.com12.18.2008
The Dancing With the Stars tour kicked off in San Diego Wednesday night and Lance Bass couldn’t be happier.
Bass, who toured for a number of years with ‘N Sync, tells PEOPLE his favorite part of being on the road is living on a bus.
“I love, love riding on a tour bus, sleeping on a tour bus. I’m more comfortable on my tour bus than I am in my actual home. The buses are so comfortable — much better than when I was on the road with ‘N Sync,” he says.
Something fans catching the show will love are new costumes and fresh performances by the stars and the pro dancers.
“There are huge costume changes — like every five minutes,” Bass says.
“We’re all changing back there. They’ve outdone themselves. The show came together so quick and I’m so impressed that everyone could do it. We had two days off and then boom, we were back. It’s just amazing.”
This time around, Bass says he and partner Lacey Schwimmer are at ease because “unlike on the show, there’s really no expectations. Everybody is there to have fun.” The pair team for four numbers in the production, which also features two musical performances by Bass’s fellow season 7 contestant, Grammy-winning singer Toni Braxton. What fans will enjoy most of all, Bass says, “is all the dancing by the pro dancers. They do these incredible numbers that they really couldn’t showcase on the TV show. The dancing is over-the-top great. Maks (Chmerkovskiy) [who choreographed the show] did an amazing job. The choreography is set to a good variety of music and there’s a good variety of dances. There’s a lot of group numbers, too, where we’re dancing with the pros and that makes me feel very inadequate,” he says, laughing. “But honestly, the show really showcases every dancer, even the celebrities.”Comments (0) 02.07.2009. 20:55

Singer – and Dancing with the Stars runner-up! – Lance Bass recently took some time to pose for PEOPLE magazine with his pups, Dingo and Foster. PEOPLE Pets was allowed behind the scenes to chat with Lance about his rescue dogs, who he met when he first moved to California. "The only thing missing in my life was a pet," says Lance. "So I went to the shelter, and fell in love with Dingo. Foster wouldn't let me leave without him, so of course I had to get both of them!"

Lance Bass: Dancing With the Stars "Destroyed" My Love Life!
usmagazine.com12.11.2008
Dancing With the Stars wasn't so good for Lance Bass' love life.
"Doing this show really destroyed a relationship that I had, which just sucked," he told Usmagazine.com at the Zen Green Tea Liqueur Launch in L.A. Wednesday. "I just had no time whatsoever, so now it's time to really focus on myself."
Of love, he said, "I've learned that you can't go looking for it. It always comes and finds you."
Look back at the most shocking splits of 2008.
Although he didn't meet Mr. Right on DWTS, he discovered a new passion.
"The great thing about this show is it really has made me fall in love with dancing," he said.
Look back at Brooke Burke and the other finalists' most unforgettable moves this season!
But after the DWTS tour wraps, Bass told Us, "I'll be hanging up the dancing shoes ... but it is fun to take classes once in a while."
So who would he like to see on the show next season?
His former NSYNC bandmate JC Chasez.
See then-and-now photos of your favorite boy bands.
"I would like to see JC do it next season," he told Us. "He's a great dancer. Probably wouldn't be fair because he'd probably win!"

Jessica Biel Considers Justin Her Private Present
people.com12.9.2008
Why won't Jessica Biel talk about Justin Timberlake? It's simple, she says. "It's the one part of my life that is my own and not for anyone else."
And, as Christmas approaches, Biel already has the best gift of all. Her relationship is "one sparkly present," she tells the January issue of British GQ. "And I don't want to open it in front of strangers."
Biel – currently starring in Easy Virtue – also opens up about the challenge of finding good roles as a woman in Hollywood.
"Your face and your body can get your foot in the door, obviously. And I'm thankful for that," she notes. "But I think it's almost historical in Hollywood that there just aren't so many good parts for women as they are for men. I think as long as you're playing the wife or the girlfriend to the lead then you're always playing second fiddle to the guys."

Lance Bass Says Britney's Poised for 'Comeback of All Time'
people.com12.3.2008
After grabbing the spotlight on Dancing with the Stars Lance Bass has a few words about another celebrity returning to the stage – Britney Spears.
"This is going to be the biggest comeback of all time," he told PEOPLE Monday during a party in his honor at New York's Citrine.
"I don't think she needs any advice from me," added Bass, 29. "She's doing an amazing job right now and I'm so proud of her."
Spears released her sixth studio album, Circus, on Tuesday – which was also her 27th birthday – and celebrated with a performance on Good Morning America. Spears is also going back on the road with a 27-city North American tour that will kick off in March.
Bass also offered congratulations to his former bandmate (and Spears's onetime boyfriend) Justin Timberlake, whose romance with Jessica Biel is going strong.
"They're just really great people," he gushed. "She's just one of the guys when it comes to him, and that something that he really loves, a girl that can just hang and get along with all his friends."
As for Bass, don't look for him on the dance floor again anytime soon.
"I'm lucky that I don't have to dance the samba anymore," he said laughing. "But it's definitely opened my eyes to a lot of new things and different styles of music, which is really cool. I can say I can danced those different styles, which is something I never thought I'd be able to do."

The Shock of Proposition 8: Lance Bass Wonders, 'Are We Still in the 1940s?'
www.observer.com12.2.2008
Last night at Citrine on West 21st Street, the former boy-band idol and Dancing With the Stars contestant Lance Bass (sporting a cargo jacket, gelled hair and faded loose-fit jeans), was surrounded by a small crowd of tan and buff partygoers who were there to toast him on the occasion of his third-place finish in the dancing competition.
After courteously posing for photos with a gaggle of thirty-something female fans-who had slipped into the giggly exuberance of their youth-the former boy-band idol, who famously came out on the cover of People magazine in July 2006, was glad to talk about what had changed since the 1990s, when he was a member of ‘N Sync. "Sure, it was a relief to come out," Mr. Bass, who is 29, told the Daily Transom.
Was it painful to be a closeted teen sex symbol? "It wasn't hard because we were so busy. I never had anything like a personal life," he said. Jiggling his cocktail in his hand, he added, "There were girls that I thought loved, that I did love but I knew along it wasn't me. I'm just lucky to be so busy that I didn't have to think about it.
Was Mr. Bass angry that Proposition 8, banning gay marriage in California, had been passed? "Of course, I think everyone is," said Mr. Bass, who lives in Los Angeles. "They're all coming out of the woodwork now that it's too late, of course. Looking at it, it's like, wow, are we still in the 1940s?"
The Daily Transom asked him if he was mad enough to move. "No, I love it still, but actually, I am moving to New York soon, I'm going to be bi-coastal!" he answered with a bright smile. "We're going to be the next state to have gay marriage, anyway." Which one? "Oh, California. I would get married wherever the hell I pleased though. It's a decision between me and God."
The Daily Transom approached the table where a black-clad Brooke Burke, who won the latest DWTS competition, was sitting quietly with her tanned fiancé David Charvet and some friends. (Mr. Bass called the ex-Maxim cover girl his best friend on the show.) Mr. Charvet-a Franco-American who was on Baywatch and has two children with Ms. Burke-didn't want to be bothered. "Brooke's been doing press since five, she's done bro, done," he told us.
A much friendlier gentleman with slicked back hair, red Ray Bans and a white cardigan was doing the robot alone at the bar. He introduced himself to the Transom as Ben Andrews, one of the stars in gay art-porn impresario Michael Lucas's troupe. "Lance is fun we've hung out in Hiro-you know the club?" he said. "I wasn't surprised when...oooh,yeah. Lady Gaga!"
Mr. Andrews pointed to the DJ booth and broke out into some jerky dance moves. He lurched to a stop and picked up where he had left off. "Lance came out, but my sisters were so excited, they were like go get ‘em."
Is Mr. Bass cool with porn stars? Mr. Andrews shrugged nonchalantly and smiled, "I don't know. We haven't hung out in, like, a year."
