Sports greats play in charity baseball game

FRISCO — When the day started with Warren Sapp smack-talking Joey Fatone it was clear that baseball was simply the vehicle for some large people and larger personalities to gather.
Sapp, a former NFL defensive tackle, provided the pregame trash-talk for the Black Socks and made sure to point out, "Oooh, Joey Fat One is here," as soon as Fatone entered the conference area.
Sapp and Fatone were part of a group of celebrity personalities gathered at the Dr Pepper Ballpark to raise money for the Mike Modano Foundation and The Heroes Baseball Program.
Though an afterthought, Modano and the Matt Williams-managed Black Socks won 11-8.

Alan Peppard: Modano, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Rich Behm

The celebrities in town for this weekend's Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball game were among the thousands of people who had to go to Plan B when wrath-of-God thunderstorms struck Dallas.
Part of the proceeds from the game go to the Mike Modano Foundation, so it was fitting that Mike's restaurant, Hully & Mo, host the annual boys' night out for the players where everyone eats, drinks and teases one other about how bad they all play baseball.
Alas, Hully & Mo's got zapped with an electricity outage.
Happily, Bill Esping volunteered The Place at Perry's, the steakhouse across the street from Hully & Mo's named for Bill's late father, Perry Esping.
The testosterone-laden bash went ahead with Mike joined by teammates Brenden Morrow and Marty Turco as well as former 'N Sync members Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, baseball major-leaguer Ben Grieve and Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson.

A Show with Paris Hilton, Simon Rex, Jamie Presley & Lance Bass -- Yes Please
blogs.nypost.com
6.12.09
An online pilot called "Rex" was posted today, and Showtime better buy it or I'm gonna kidnap someones dog as ransom (Paris, I'm talkin' to you).
The show, created by Guy Shalem who created (and directed some episodes) of Lifetime's "Lovespring International," centers around Simon Rex and his search to get back in the limelight. The brilliance of the show lives within the co-stars of the cast, and get this, Paris Hilton (as his fake girlfriend) is the best actor of all. Most people would argue that she may just be playing herself, but her comedic timing and delivery makes me want to take back every sassy quip I ever said about her.
The cast list, including a gut-splitting Jamie Presley and Brian Huskey, sounds like some sort of underground Hollywood fight club. Also on board is "Alias'" Victor Garber and Jill Talley, playing Rex's brilliant parents, and the streets of Los Angeles, which make up the sets the stories come to life on. This show is just another reason why reality TV is NOT the only option.
I think the moment I knew this thing wasn't a gumball of bull crap was when Lance "Not Gay" Bass (I promise that will make sense when you watch) joined the bunch and I still wanted to watch. No offense, LB, but I was sure you would take me out of it and you didn't -- major props. When he and Simon share some strange Cyrano de Bergerac setup, I just about lost my Triscuits.
Give the full 23-minute pilot a watch after the jump, and then call Showtime and tell them to get on the ball!

Timberlake back in Black for golf's U.S. Open Challenge
www.usatoday.com
5.11.09
By Steve DiMeglio, USA TODAY
Trash talking with Michael Jordan? Why not. Justin Timberlake does just about everything else. The songwriter, musician, actor, TV show producer and golf tournament host will this weekend face the NBA icon, two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and amateur Larry Gielbelhausen in the second U.S. Open Challenge.
Timberlake conquered the challenge to break 100 in last year's inaugural contest at Torrey Pines in San Diego, a contest which was developed after Tiger Woods said in 2007 that no 10-handicapper could break 100 on a U.S. Open golf course. When 6-time NBA title winner Jordan agreed to play, he said, "If Justin Timberlake can break 100, I know damn well I can." In response, Timberlake told Jordan to bring his wallet.
The 18-hole, count-every-stroke round the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., site of next week's U.S. Open, will air June 21 from 12-1:30 p.m. ET as a lead-in to the final round of the Open.
Timberlake answered a quick nine of questions with USA TODAY's Steve DiMeglio.
Q: With everything else that's going on in your life — as a musician, actor, fashion designer and executive producer of new reality show The Phone — will you have enough time to get ready for this ultimate golf challenge?
JT: "That's actually a legitimate concern of mine. That's going to be the tough part — squeezing in time to practice. And you have to do that to play Bethpage, believe me. I played the (Bethpage) Black Course once, just the front nine. It's tough, even without the tough U.S. Open setup. And it's long. Really long. It's going to be tough to break 100 there."
Q: Top golf coach Butch Harmon was going to be on your bag but now PGA Tour star Anthony Kim will be. Did Harmon give you a few pointers, though?
JT: "He told me ways to maximize my practice time: He has some stuff for me to work on. And to make everything I do in practice count. But honestly, I just have to see how fast the greens are. It comes down to a putting contest. You have to get a feel on and around the greens to have a shot in this."
Q: Last year you did break 100 in the challenge at Torrey Pines. How will that help you this year?
JT: "It wasn't easy at all, I'll tell you that, so I've experienced this kind of situation. I know a little bit more of what to expect. It's really about grinding through the day. It's more about enjoying yourself. Golf is the game where you can step on the same field as the pros and that's one reason golf is a great sport. It's really about enjoying yourself. If I don't break 100 this time, I can always say I already did it."
Q: Anything else that could prove a help to you this year?
JT: "I have a new driver. I've been using the Callaway Diablo with a neutral setting. It just comes off the face so hot. It's a more boring flight. It just moves through the air. I need the help and this is giving it to me. I'm 10 to 15 yards longer with this driver and at Bethpage, that's huge."
Q: Although you've performed live in front of tens of thousands of people at a time and have made movies and albums, what kind of pressure do you feel knowing that your golf game will be nationally televised?
JT: "You don't really think about that. You just kind of do well. I came up with some good shots last year. I think that was the highest score I've ever put on the card. It was the toughest golf I've ever played. It got to a point where it actually wasn't enjoyable. It was like work. But it became fun in the end. It was just a really long day. I think it's good for the game to see average to decent golfers go out there and play the same courses the pros play, so you get an idea how really great the professional golfers are."
Q: What's the best score you ever put on the card?
JT: "I've shot par. I've shot 72 a couple of times."
Q: Your favorite courses?
JT: "Sentimentally I have to go with Mirimichi Golf Course (in Memphis, which Timberlake saved from foreclosure and renovated). With all the work that went into it, Torrey Pines in U.S. Open conditions was amazing. Carnoustie (site of the 2007 British Open) is an amazing course. The Old Course at St. Andrews (site of the 2010 British Open) is awesome."
Q: How jazzed will you be to play with Michael Jordan and Ben Roethlisberger?
JT: "Between those two you're looking at eight (championship) rings. Ben is a great guy and so is Mike. It will be a fun round of golf. The contest winner, the amateur, is one lucky dude. I feel equally lucky to walk around with two world-class athletes. Michael was my idol when I was growing up. And he's a cool dude. And so is Ben. I'll be there to heckle them and to add some comedic value."
Q: And will there be any trash talking with Jordan, since he already said, "If Justin Timberlake can break 100, I know damn well I can."
JT: Well, he'll surely find out if he can or not because he's going to be playing the toughest golf of his life. Under these conditions it's going to be very tough for him. I wish him the best. And I'll be there with my checkbook."

Exclusive: Justin Timberlake Being Pressured To Have Babies With
www.foxnews.com
6.10.09
If Jessica Biel wants to hold off on having children, she might want to steer clear of boyfriend Justin Timberlake's mother.
An eyewitness tells FOXNews.com that Timberlake's mother, Lynn Harless, was outside a party saying she doesn't want to be an "old grandmother" and is pushing her son to get on with procreating, already.
Harless said she was 20 when she had Justin, and that being a young mother is ideal because you have "so much more energy," and added that Justin's career was so successful, he had the opportunity to focus now on "other things."
Like children.
But it sounds like Biel, 27, is not on the same page as Harless when it comes to starting a family. The actress told this month's issue of Allure that she has "no idea" if she wants to get married and has still has “a lot to do, careerwise.”
Biel can also take solace in Justin's response to his mother's proddings. Harless told her friends that Justin, 28, tells her to "cut it out," whenever she brings up kids.
Harless also told her pals that Jessica and Justin and are getting more serious about tying the knot and she respects them for wanting to do things "right."
She just wishes they'd do things "right" a little faster, and with some little kiddies running around them while they do it.

www.aceshowbiz.com

Leona Lewis recently talked about her new album and revealed that indeed Justin Timberlake will be featured on her several new songs in addition to contributing on its production. "He's so awesomely talented. He's been producing and he's got vocals on some my tracks too," she told Digital Spy.
During the interview with the publication at Capital's FM Summertime Ball, Leona also shared that the recording sessions for the new record is "more than halfway" done. About 20 new songs have been crafted for the effort, so she said.
To Digital Spy, Leona also adds, "I'm really, really positive about it. This far in, I'm feeling it even more [than last time]" when referring to what she feels toward the follow up to her debut album "Spirit".
News that Leona Lewis and Justin Timberlake work together was outed earlier this year. They had hit Chalice Recording Studios for a song called "Don't Let Me Down". Also, they were rumored to join forces on a cover version of Whitney Houston's 1974 song "I Will Always Love You", which was penned by Dolly Parton.

Justin Timberlake's global ambition
www.stuff.co.nz
6.9.09
Justin Timberlake wants to take his clothing line global.
The 'Sexy Back' singer - who launched his William Rast denim label in October 2006 - is so pleased with the success of his brand he wants to open stores in as many countries as possible.
A source told America's National Enquirer magazine: "It's doing so well that he's planning to open up boutiques around the world. It's worth tens of millions of dollars. He could sell it and retire."
The 28-year-old star recently topped GQ magazine's list of the 10 Most Stylish Men in America for his impact on fashion and his "knack for targeting trends".
Justin topped the list because of his willingness to take style risks with his use of hats, three-piece suits, skinny ties and facial hair.
Despite being voted the Most Stylish Man in America, Justin believes British supermodel Kate Moss is the ultimate fashion icon because she "could put a barrel on and it would be some sort of statement".
