Earlier this week Lou Pearlman, who is the man behind the “Backstreet Boys” and “N’Sync,” was sentenced to 25 years in the slammer after he pleaded guilty to cheating investors out of more than $300 million dollars. Hollyscoop caught up with JC Chasez at the "Maxim Hot 100 party" in Los Angeles and asked him his thoughts about Pearlman.

“I don’t even know if I have an opinion on it…that was apart of my life that I just have put behind me at this point. I read it, I put it in my mental Rolodex, it’s really behind me."

He added, “some people are happy, it just has no bearing on my life anymore, its not relevant to me anymore.”

Good news for JC is he doesn’t have to worry about bumping into Perv man anytime soon.

Spring is in the air (unless it's snowing), and our favorite patios are beckoning (Chris Mentio

By Kathleen St. John

It's getting to be that excruciating, teeth-gritting time of year. The time when the trees are sprouting lovely new leaves, flowers are waving gently in the breeze, flip-flops are by the door — and then it snows.

Shake a fist at the sky, smack your forehead, do whatever it takes to release the frustration. Summer is taking its sweet time coming, but we must endure. Patio drinks are worth the wait.

Once we hit the dog days, strap on those flip-flops and explore some new places to enjoy a cold one in the sun. Just this week, two local favorites are opening brand-new patios to cater to Coloradans' love of outdoor imbibing.

Encore (2550 E. Colfax Ave.; 303-355-1112), the upscale restaurant at the Lowenstein Theater complex, debuts its airy porch May 21 with a classy soiree. Since it just opened in December, this will be Encore's first Denver summer. With a menu of organic cocktails and an upcoming summer wine series, Encore's patio promises to be a great place to savor summer and take in the sights on East Colfax.

Over in Uptown, Hamburger Mary's, (700 E. 17th Ave.; 303-832-1333) has many charms — "Mary"oke karaoke, live shows, tasty burgers — so it might as well add one more with a patio. On Saturday and Sunday, Mary's opens its patio in typically brash fashion with a big blowout. The parties feature entertainment from Tony Tripoli, Jennifer Holliday and more, and benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Tickets are $10 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday — visit hamburgermarysdenver.com for a link to purchase. Doors open at 4 p.m. both days, so get there early to be among the first in the new space. It'll be a good place to cool off when Mary's gets crazy-busy on summer nights to come.

All the old favorites will be back in action soon, too. Sutra (1109 Lincoln St.) has one of the best patios in Denver — it's one of those all-weather porches that can change with the temperature. Getting chilly? Light up the fire.

Sutra welcomes patio season with a happy- hour party on Fridays that makes the most of the (possible) sunshine. From 5 to 8 p.m., sip on $4 mojitos or sign up for the open-bar guest list at denver2night.com. Ladies on the list get a free open bar during the party; it's $10 for guys on the list.

These are just a few suggestions, of course. Take a spin around Denver, and keep your eyes peeled for those patio umbrellas. They'll be opening up all over the place soon. We hope.

Pop notes.

Any 'NSYNC fans out there? Justin Timberlake's old pal,Chris Kirkpatrick, is working on becoming part of the Denver scene as a music correspondent for Denver Magazine.

Kirkpatrick will toast his new gig at Below (in the 1400 block alley between Larimer and Lawrence streets), starting at 9 p.m. Friday. Stop by and have a cocktail — maybe you can ask him for the secret to "Bye Bye Bye." Where are you going, Chris? What does it all mean?

Purple Haze.

Strange things are afoot at the Purple Martini. Co-owner Will Coleman spilled a few details in a phone conversation Tuesday night.

The short version: He's splitting from his Purple Martini partners, and he's taking the name with him.

"I'm actually kind of excited," said Coleman. "Our product was slipping to the point where it was difficult to compete."

Coleman said he's in talks with a new group of partners — he doesn't want to name them just yet — and that he's "excited about the opportunities."

"It's going to be something that'll take me to a level I've been hoping to get to for some time," he said.

But what does this mean for the chain of Purple Martinis in Denver and Boulder? We'll have to see what Coleman and his new cronies come up with next. Stay tuned.

Timberlake To Wed Jessica Biel?

mtv.com

The lovebirds are looking to settle down…

After much speculation, and some tight-lipped responses, Justin Timberlake is on the verge of proposing to Jessica Biel, claims The Sun.

A source has stated “For the first time in his life he is feeling settled and has definitely decided to pop the question to Jessica.”

JT has recently spent away from the beautiful actress whilst promoting the single 4 Minutes with Madonna and the separation has apparently jolted him into realising Jessica is ‘the one’.

And to add to the picture-perfect couple’s happiness, Jessica has been seen avoiding alcoholic drinks, sparking rumours that she is pregnant.

Aside from long term loves Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz, JT has been linked with a host of beauties in the past including Scarlett Johansson and Christina Aguilera.

By Simon Reynolds, Entertainment Reporter

Justin Timberlake has told US chatshow host Ellen DeGeneres that he wants to sing at her wedding to Portia de Rossi.

Taking advantage of Timberlake's appearance on her show, Ellen suggested that she and de Rossi could marry with him and actress Jessica Biel.

"We could have a double wedding. We could do it together," she said.

Timberlake replied: "I don't know about all that. You know, I'll sing at your wedding."

DeGeneres accepted Timberlake's offer and said he could write a song using her and De Rossi's notebooks as inspiration.

"I will put it on music. It'll be amazing," Timberlake said.

DeGeneres announced last week during a taping of her talkshow that she would marry her actress girlfriend de Rossi.

Rumours surfaced earlier today saying that Timberlake is planning to wed Biel.

MTV has greenlighted a reality game show from Justin Timberlake and "American Idol" producers FremantleMedia North America.

"The Phone," based on a Dutch format by Park Lane Prods., pits two contestants in a race against time to accomplish a mission together and win a cash prize. Each episode begins with two strategically hidden cell phones ringing at opposite ends of a major city. Once answered, a mysterious guide gives contestants five seconds to decide whether they wish to play, at which point the competition begins.

"We're turning the reality competition format on its head and plunging the contestants into a real-life 'Bourne Identity' -- not just in the tone and creative but also in terms of the visual style and pacing," said Tony Disanto, executive vp programming and series development at MTV. "Each week will be an action packed mini-movie."

Added FMNA CEO Cecile Frot-Coutaz: " 'The Phone' is an exciting, innovative reality game that will make the viewer feel they're part of an espionage thriller that is gripping to the very end."

The show, debuting in the fall, is exec produced by Timberlake, David Schiff and Frot-Coutaz. Maira Suro is the executive overseeing production for MTV.

In case you missed it, (like I did), CMT’s version of American Idol, Gone Country’s first season ended. I guess I didn’t even know it was on. Julio Iglesias Jr. won the competition – did you ever see that hilarious SNL skit from the time Derek Jeter hosted? He was “Norberto”, not Julio Jr., but it was freaking funny. Back to the topic at hand…

Gone Country was a pretty successful little show, and the folks over at CMT decided to pick it up for a second season. Hollywood Reporter has the new cast of Has Beens who will be featured on the second season. This news is so new that CMT doesn’t even have it on their website yet, so here are some of the contestants for your perusal.

Chris Kirkpatrick (who?) – I see on Wikipedia that he used to be part of N’Sync. That’s why I don’t know who he is.

Jermaine Jackson – older, and slightly less crazy brother to the King of Pop.

“Skid Row lead singer Sebastian Bach, who recently competed on sister network MTV's Celebrity Rap Superstar

Actress-singer Irene Cara

American Idol finalist Mikalah Gordon

And, actor Lorenzo Lamas, who recently popped up on ABC's "The Bachelor," on which his daughter Shayne is one of two remaining contestants.

Wow. Sounds like a “star-studded” cast. I’m kind of embarrassed for these guys. When the public is done with you, you need to just go away and live a semi-normal life in Boca Raton, (or where ever you want to retire). Stop trying to relive your glory days. You’re fall from grace is going to be twice as hard the second time around. Hey, I’ve got it… if they could just get Liza Minelli on board, I’m sure they’d have the highest ratings of the season.

The Party Crasher - Lance Bass' Mediocre Rooftop B-day Soiree

blogs.miaminewtimes.com
Mon May 05, 2008 at 08:53:39 AM

Just because you’re a pop idol has-been and a year shy of 30 doesn’t mean you can’t still invite a few hundred of Miami’s top movers and shakers to your birthday party, right? Lance Bass may not be as cool as he used to, but the former 'N Syncer-slash-failed-astronaut extraordinaire hosted his 29th Sunday night at the Gansevoort South’s Plunge Rooftop Pool Bar.

With a fabulous crew adorned in everything from SoBe chic to cowboy hats to metallic blazers, the highlight of the evening was the sweet treat tower of cupcakes from Stella’s Sweet Shoppe, boasting Magnolia-worthy icing and fondant cake toppers with an airbrushed Lance in astro helmet and disco balls galore. The music was mediocre at best, as was the mood of another hungover Sunday night pool party.

Other D-listers, like Frankie Godoy from Bravo’s Make Me A Supermodel and recently freed jailbird Joe Francis from Girl’s Gone Wild, showed up for some drinks and then the party pretty much died faster than my mood once learning the complimentary mojito pitchers had run dry. All in all, I give that former popstar some cred, considering the exceptional choice of location, the ocean breeze, and, of course, the never-ending confectious cupcake tower. Lance: At least you came off as a sugar daddy in one sense of the word.
